Special Sessions aim to provide exciting opportunities for researchers and
practitioners to present and exchange ideas on selected topics from the
Call for Papers and within the
fields of interest of the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics (SMC) Society,
and particularly to think about shaping the future. One Special Session has the
same time-period as a regular session of technical paper presentations, but
Special Sessions will address very emerging new areas of special interest to the
SMC community.
Special
Session proposals related to the conference theme
(Cyber-Physical Systems
and Society) or especially
hot SMC topics are most welcome.
Special Session proposals that are really thematically
special and/or topically very hot may be accepted as
Thematic Special Sessions, to
differentiate from sessions organized on more
conventional SMC topics
.
Special session organizers
would solicit a cohesive set of contributed papers
responsive to the proposed SMC topic.
Each Special Session is expected to consist of five accepted papers. Paper
submission to proposed Special Sessions is not a guarantee of acceptance. In
fact, all submitted papers of Special Sessions have to undergo the same review
process
(three completed reviews per paper).
The technical reviewers for each Special Session paper will be members of the SMC
2011 Program Committee and qualified peer-reviewers to be nominated by the
Special Session organizers. Special Sessions on the same topic for which the
total number of accepted papers exceeds five may be scheduled for multiple
time-slots. Please click here
to download an electronic version of Special Sessions guidelines.
Each Special Session proposal should include the following:
1.
Title for the proposed Special Session,
2. Targeted themes of the Special
Session,
3. Targeted number of accepted papers
of the Special Session,
4. Justification of interest, fit, and
impact for SMC 2011 conference scopes and themes,
5. Statement on how papers for the
Special Session are to be effectively solicited,
6. Statement on how qualified
peer-reviewers will be identified or selected (three completed reviews per
paper) to support the paper review process, or a planned list of people whom
Special Session organizers would like to nominate as peer-reviewers for the
Special Session,
7. Short biography of Special Session
organizer(s) (include complete address, phone, and e-mail),
8. Complete flyer of Call for Papers of
the Special Session
IMPORTANT DATES
February 10, 2011: Deadline for proposals to organize special sessions.
February 15, 2011: Special session proposal acceptance/rejection notification.

Special
Sessions Chair, IEEE SMC 2011
